How the work runs
Layout and grade
Every job starts with line, grade and drainage. Where the water needs to go decides the finished elevations, and the elevations decide where the forms are set.
Excavation and base
The area is dug to depth, soft or unsuitable material comes out, and a stone base is placed and compacted. Nobody sees this part once the concrete is down, and it decides how well the concrete holds up.
Forms and reinforcement
Forms are set to the finished height and slope and braced to hold during the pour. Where the job calls for reinforcement, it is supported off the ground so it ends up inside the slab rather than under it.
Placement and finishing
Concrete is placed, struck off, floated and finished to the texture chosen for the job, usually broom outdoors. The pour is sized so finishing keeps pace with placement.
Joints and curing
Control joints are cut on time so cracks follow the joints. The new concrete is kept from drying out too fast while it gains strength, with the plan adjusted for heat or cold.

How do I get a price?

What affects the price of a concrete job?
Size is only part of it. Thickness, reinforcement, the condition of the ground underneath, how close a ready mix truck can get, removal of old concrete, jointing and the finish all change the number. That is why a description of the site leads to a firmer price than a square footage alone.
How far ahead should I schedule concrete work?
Earlier is better, especially if you need the work done by a set date. Concrete depends on the weather, and a pour can move when heavy rain or a hard freeze is in the forecast. Booking ahead leaves room to work around the weather without pushing past the date you need.
What finishes are available?
Broom, float and troweled finishes cover most work. Broom is the usual choice outdoors because it holds traction when wet, and a troweled finish suits garage floors and covered slabs. Decorative and stamped finishes are available for patios, walks and pool decks and should be chosen before the job is scheduled.
